This month, for International Systems Engineer Day on November 29, we’re putting the spotlight on Rene.
Hi Rene! What does a day in the life of a Systems Engineer at Medmont look like?
A day in the life of a Systems Engineer at Medmont is both dynamic and intellectually stimulating. Some days, I focus on reviewing and drafting documents for updates. I may collaborate with engineers or suppliers to find alternative components for parts that are approaching the end of their life cycle. Additionally, I might participate in design review meetings with the product development team or spend the day testing the device in various situations.
What skills make you good at your job?
One of my key strengths is my ability to communicate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders. I facilitate open discussions that help break down complex problems into manageable components, making it easier to identify and implement effective solutions. Additionally, I prioritise clear communication to keep everyone aligned with the project strategy, fostering collaboration and ensuring that all team members are working towards common goals. This approach enhances project efficiency and helps to build a strong team dynamic.
What do you enjoy most about working at Medmont?
The most rewarding aspect of working at Medmont is the opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative medical devices that have a direct impact on people’s lives. It’s incredibly fulfilling to know that our work is helping eye care professionals diagnose and treat eye diseases more accurately and efficiently. Additionally, the supportive and collaborative work environment, combined with the opportunity to learn from experienced engineers, makes it a truly enjoyable place to work.
Favourite things to do outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. Home renovations have recently taken up most of my weekends, but it is rewarding to look back at what we have achieved.
In another life, you would have been…
It’s hard to say what my primary interest is because I have such varied passions. However, one thing that consistently motivates me is helping people. I feel fortunate to be in the medical device field, as it allows me to contribute to improving people’s lives. I believe I would gravitate toward any profession that has a positive impact on others.
