Associate Professor, clinician and widely recognised contact lens practitioner Richard Vojlay upgraded to the mermont meridia™ to modernise his practice. We asked him why he chose to upgrade and how the meridia™ compares to his E300 corneal topographer. Here’s what he said.
When I purchased my new practice in May 2022, I had a shopping list of essential equipment to bring the practice into the 21st century. Top of the list was the Medmont Meridia™ topographer.
I had extensively used the previous model, E300, for over 20 years at my previous contact lens specialty practice for Ortho-K, keratoconus, and corneal graft contact lens fittings. I was very happy with the accuracy and ease of use of the E300 and was looking forward to the extra features included in the Meridia.
The Meridia™ has simplified the ergonomics of the image capture and has mires to die for—clear and precise, and effortlessly takes excellent topography maps.
The topographical analysis has been upgraded and like the E300, the Meridia™ has an extensive range of contact simulation designs.
The Meridia™ can also record quality white light and fluorescein photographs and videos to easily document contact lens fittings and after-care reviews. In addition, the Meridia™ includes a comprehensive dry eye evaluation suite, including meibography, to quantify a dry eye assessment.
As a quality car is only as good as the service available after the sale. Jason Anderson (Asia Pacific Sales Manager) is that quality support behind the Medmont name. His availability and professional approach have been invaluable in troubleshooting those issues that inevitably arise with any complicated technology.
When I ask patients to guess where the Meridia™ is manufactured, they are surprised and a little proud to discover that it is made in Melbourne. It’s great to support a home-grown product.
Keratometry was state of the art up to the 1980’s, but we now have affordable topography that I think should be mandatory in every optometric practice in Australia so we can deliver quality optometric care.
It’s not by accident that the E300 was considered the gold standard in corneal topography, but now the bar has been raised by the new features on the Meridia™. Great value for money when you consider the life of this technology.
